  5. The Best of Food and Wine is Multicom's latest addition to its series
  6. of cookbooks.  The What's for Dinner section can access recipes found
  7. in Multicom's other cookbooks.  At installation it checks to see which
  8. titles you already own.  If you later purchase another Multicom cookbook,
  9. you can re-install the program and it will update itself to allow 
  10. What's for Dinner to access the new recipes.

  17.      *  MPC or equivalent
  18.      *  33 MHz 80486DX or better
  19.      *  Minimum 8MB RAM
  20.      *  DOS 5.0 or later
  21.      *  Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later (Windows 95 compatible)
  22.      *  MPC-2 Compatible CD-ROM drive (2x or faster)

  29. General Installation Instructions:
  30. ----------------------------------

  32. The following are instructions for installing The Best of Food and Wine on your hard drive.  This procedure installs a few small 
  33. files onto your hard drive that allow you to run our program.  Please 
  34. note that after installing, the CD must be in the CD-ROM drive 
  35. whenever you wish to run The Best of Food and Wine.
  36.  
  37. - WINDOWS 3.1 -  
  38.  
  39. 1. Insert the Best of Food and Wine CD into the CD-ROM drive. 
  40. 2. From Program Manager, select RUN from the FILE menu. 
  41. 3. Type D:\setup (where D is the letter name of your CD-ROM) and 
  42.    click OK.
  43. 4. Answer all installation questions that appear on the screen.
  44. 5. Before the Best of Food and Wine is complete, it will 
  45.    check to see if you have a current version of  Quicktime 
  46.    installed on your system.  If you do not, the Quicktime 
  47.    installation program will begin.  
  48. 6. Once the installation is complete, you may start The Best of Food 
  49.    and Wine by opening the Multicom program group and double-clicking
  50.    on the Best of Food and Wine icon.

  53. - WINDOWS 95 - 
  54.  
  55. 1. Insert the Best of Food and Wine CD into the CD-ROM drive 
  56.    and the program setup will start automatically.
  57.  
  58. If your CD-ROM drive does not support Autoplay:
  59. 1. Insert the Best of Food and Wine CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  60. 2. Go to the START menu on the taskbar and click run.
  61. 3. Type D:\SETUP.EXE (where D is the letter name of your CD-ROM 
  62.    drive) and click OK.

  65. Notes on Uninstallation:

  68. Should you ever wish to remove The Best of Food and Wine from your 
  69. hard drive follow these steps:
  70.  
  71. - Windows 3.1 -
  72.  
  73.    - Open the Multicom program group and double click the Uninstall 
  74.      The Best of Food and Wine icon.
  75.    - Click YES to completely remove The Best of Food and Wine.
  76.    - Finally, click OK to close the Uninstall window.

  78. - Windows 95 - 
  79.  
  80.    - Go to the START menu and click SETTINGS, then click CONTROL PANEL.
  81.    - Select ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS from the CONTROL PANEL window.
  82.    - In the resulting dialog box, select The Best of Food and Wine.
  83.    - Click the ADD/REMOVE... button.
  84.    - Click YES to completely remove The Best of Food and Wine.
  85.    - Finally, click OK to close the Uninstall window.

  88. To avoid conflicts and for best performance:
  89. --------------------------------------------

  91. * Turn off Wallpaper and Screen Savers [Set to <None> in the Desktop 
  92.   Control Panel for Windows 3.1 or go to Start, Settings, Control 
  93.   Panel, Display for Windows 95].
  94.  
  95. * Make sure no other programs are running in the background while
  96.   running The Best of Food and Wine. 
  97.

  99. Trouble-shooting:
  100. -------------------------------------------- 
  101.  
  102. HELP:  The Best of Food and Wine has an extensive on-line help section. 
  103. You can access it at any time by clicking on the HELP icon.
  104.  
  105. Problem:  Errors displaying files, reading the CD drive, and 
  106.           printing (among assorted others).
  107.  
  108.      Solution 1: Do not run any other applications simultaneously
  109. with The Best of Food and Wine.  This includes any TSR's or 
  110. Startup applications. (e.g. Microsoft Office or Bookshelf, Packard 
  111. Bell Navigator) You can check your Windows Task List in Windows 3.1 
  112. by holding the Crtl-Esc keys down.  Program manager should be the 
  113. only task listed.  If there are others, highlight them and select 
  114. "End Task" for each of them.  In Windows 95, there should be no 
  115. other programs listed in the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

  117.      Solution 2:  Increase the size of Virtual Memory Swap File.
  118. Please refer to your Windows manual for instructions on this 
  119. procedure.  (We recommend a swap file of at lease 7 megabytes.)

  122. If Picture and Video Quality is Poor...
  123. ------------------------------------------------
  124.  
  125. Make sure you are using the correct video driver for your video 
  126. card and not the Windows VGA driver. (Go to the Windows Setup in 
  127. your Main group. If it says "VGA" next to Display, then you are 
  128. using the wrong driver.)  Do not try switching drivers unless 
  129. you know what you are doing!  It is safest to contact the 
  130. manufacturer of your computer or video card to correct this 
  131. problem.

  133. Aside from the above listed procedures, try switching your video 
  134. card settings to 640x480 and 256 or 65,000 colors.  If the problems still 
  135. continue, contact the manufacturer of your video card and 
  136. confirm that you have the most recent version of their Video 
  137. Driver.  (Video drivers are updated frequently and are usually 
  138. available free of charge.)

  140. No audio...
  141. ------------------------------------------------
  142.  
  143. In our installation program we have included some tools to assist 
  144. you in case you run into difficulties.  If you experience audio
  145. problems while using The Best of Food and Wine, run the program setup 
  146. again. This time, however, select the 'Utilities' (rather than Install) to 
  147. help you determine what the problem may be. If you are unable to 
  148. play a midi file or a wave file, you may have a problem with your 
  149. sound card driver installation.  If this is the case, refer to the 
  150. manual for your sound card.
